MASTERCLASS | FOREIGNSPEAK | THE COST OF TRANSLATING A SERIES OF SALES VIDEOS

PART 5 - GETTING FOREIGN LANGUAGE VERSIONS RIGHT

The cost of translating a series of sales videos

graphic-0041

If you have a number of sales videos to translate, say 5 or more, then costs can quickly escalate.

So £2,500 for captioning might become £5,000 for full localization. At a stroke.

This pushes many firms to go for low cost, caption-only versions.

As a video producer I’d always suggest full localization is worth the extra.

But sometimes budgets don’t always stretch that far.

It’s up to you, and your particular circumstances to decide which is best.

Better engagement versus higher cost.

First ask yourself: How many foreign subtitle movies do you ever watch on Netflix? Occasionally, often or never?

Your own viewing habits will inform you as to whether subcaptions are suitable for an overseas market or workforce.
