What do we mean by “one web video per homepage”?
According to strong trends and our own experience with customers – in the not too distant future – most websites will have a video on their homepage.
This means that whenever someone visits a website – a video will welcome them and show them quickly why they should keep looking at the site.
It’s clear that there are many advantages to having a video instead of still images or text to convey your message and win more enquiries.
Here are 5 quick reasons why we think there will soon be a video for every homepage:
1. A web video on your homepage will reduce your bounce rate
Getting visitors to your homepage is not the easiest of tasks – and when they get there you want them to visit other parts of your site.
But this isn’t always the case – often they visit, stay for a few seconds, and then leave.
The average UK bounce rate is a shocking 41% – that means 41 out of every 100 visit a site and just leave. Website owners need something to make visitors stay and explore.
2012 research from Website Magazine found that:
“Consumers are willing to watch videos 60% of the time they are found.”
So most visitors will stay to watch your video – just make sure the video ends with an interactive menu, linking them to other parts of your site.
Alternatively, make sure there is a proper Call to Action, so the viewer is left knowing what to do, and they’re not confused.
2. It will help with Search Engine Optimisation (or SEO)
In 2011, Marketingweek reported that:
“Video results appear in about 70% of the top 100 listings, the type of content most often displayed in universal or blended search results.”
A properly coded, keyworded and tagged video on your homepage will make Google happy.
3. It makes your site look better – and more appealing
People prefer video to text.
Or to images for that matter – it just looks better.
Plus it’s still pretty prestigious to have a web video on your homepage, so get a professional video for your professional site.
It can be a quick and effective way of giving your homepage a facelift, without having to redesign the whole site.
4. It will future proof your site
It’s fair to say that Smartphone users market will soon dominate the web.
According to a 2011 mobile marketing report by Microsoft:
“By 2014, there will be more mobile Internet users than desktop/laptop users. And 50% of local searches are already done on mobile devices.”
And more and more smartphone users are watching web video as opposed to reading text – probably because it’s difficult to read on such a small screen.
According to a report by eMarketer:
“77% of mobile video viewers report watching more mobile video than they did one year ago.”
Mobile video is the future – so make sure your video will play on one!
5. Soon every site will have one – so don’t miss out
Recently, Forbes Magazine reported that:
“In a keynote address at CES, YouTube’s Vice President of Global Content Robert Kyncl said that video would soon be 90% of Internet traffic.”
In the next few years, the web will be found on a video – and not the other way around!
