One of the most important members of the Studio Rossiter team, Victoria Rossiter was born into a world of video production.
With both of her parents being in the industry, she grew up with cameras, editing machines, actors, artists and everything else that a company like Studio Rossiter needs to operate.
Now working for the company as an editor, she agreed to share some of her thoughts with us.
Q: How long have you been in the business?
A: I’ve been working at Studio Rossiter for nearly 3 years, though video production was something I grew up with due to my parents having the company. I've always been nerdy, I produced Flash animations for the business when I was 16.
Q: How did you get into the business?
A: Growing up I always had a big interest in art. That progressed to graphic design and video. I ended up doing a Art Foundation National Diploma and my final project - which was a combination of digital video and animated drawings - got a distinction.
I went to university at The Leeds College of Art, but I felt it was very slow and wanted more, I was organising a lot of events and doing extra activities. I think it was then, that my folks saw the potential.
Q: What did you used to do?
A: Before I began working here I was in higher education.
Before university I took a year out. This was spent in Amsterdam working in a comedy store. And by that I don’t mean I was performing - I just did behind the scenes stuff like marketing and promotions.
Q: Anything new projects wise?
A: I’m doing a few new things at the moment, one of which is a marketing showreel for Studio Rossiter - browsing through all our videos is amazing, but hard to narrow down to just 2 mins.
I'm also working on a series of web videos for Birmingham Billiards - which is quite exciting as it has Willie Thorne in it.
At the moment I’m fully booked until the end of August - so there’s a lot to be getting on with!
Q: What's changed?
A: Well, I’ve seen DVDs be phased out - we now host our videos online and give clients digital files. And our machines have got a lot better too, much quicker!
Also, clients are starting to use web video more than corporate video, when I started it wasn't seen as the done thing to buy a web video - though saying that we still do a lot of corporate video work.
Q: What do you like best about what you do?
A: I like the fact that I’m doing a job I’ve always studied for - not many people can say that these days.
Plus every project is different - nothing gets repetitive. I also like meeting new clients and finding out about their businesses. You get to learn a lot of little things in a job like this.
Q: Do you enjoy working for Studio Rossiter?
A: Yes. Its core consists of a small, dedicated team of people - all of whom are really keen about what they do!
