We use a wide range of voiceover artists.
We have to because we offer a wide range of video products.
One of our favourites is Elinor Hamilton.
Here’s her story.
Q: How long have you been in the business?
A: I've been doing voiceover work for 10 years and have been in the media industry for 15 years.
Q: How did you get into the industry?
A: I needed a job to see me through college - and by chance I ended up getting an office job at Radio Aire in Leeds. It was evening work whilst I studied Performing Arts during the day.
Working behind the scenes on radio made me very technically able. When I finished college, I moved to Manchester to attend university. There are lots of radio stations in Manchester, and I got a job at Tower FM. It was there where I met my partner Phil, who also did voiceover work.
We got together and started our voiceover business SayerHamilton.
Q: Anything new happened recently?
A: Everyday there’s something new!
There’s always new work. We are on all of the top voiceover sites, though we get most of our work directly from our website.
Q: What changes have there been?
We have a phrase in the voiceover industry - fax and dial.
The producer used to fax over the script and then call us on the ISDN line. We would read out the script and the voiceover work was recorded.
We still use this phrase - but we no longer use a fax. Like any other business we now use email.
The recession has had an effect on the amount of radio work we do, but the corporate side of things have remained busy - thankfully! If we had to rely on radio work then we wouldn’t be doing so well.
Q: What do you like best about what you do?
A: I love waking up and not knowing what type of work I’m going to be doing. Most jobs are done within 24 hours - the producer will usually call us in the morning and want the voiceover done by the end of the day.
This can be both exciting and nerve wracking!
I also like the fact that I can work from home. As long as you stay committed, this is a really great way to work.
Q: Do you like working with Studio Rossiter?
Yes. The work they produce is of a very high standard. They always give us a well written script - and they make brilliant videos. Plus they’re nice to work with!
