8 Ways To Revitalise An Old Video

You probably have a great video, one that tells your customers what you and your business are really about.

But it’s looking dated.

So how do you take a classic video and make stunning to the audience of 2012?

Here’s how.

1. If it’s 4:3 make it 16:9

This can be done by any half decent post-production house.

It involves scaling the image up and then chopping the top and bottom of it a bit.

Because this is essentially squashing and stretching the image, it can leave it a bit blurred. So after this process, it needs to be sharpened.

2. Boost the colours and contrast

Old footage has less colour and less contrast. So give them a digital 21st Century boost!

3. Cut a new version

Got a 10 minute video?

Why not re-redit it? Or- better still – cut it into a couple of 5 minute videos!

4. Promote it in a different way

The fact that it talks of a ‘bygone-era’ may work to your advantage.

Promote it as a classic, proof that you’ve always had the same ideal or even just as a piece of nostalgia.

5. Get a small of amount of new filming done to keep it up to date

Why re-shoot the whole thing when only certain parts of it need updating?

Shoot what you need and preserve the illusion.

6. Add new photos into it

Or – if you can’t shoot new moving footage – why not use stills?

Ally them with graphics, maybe the odd animation, and see what happens!

7. Change the music to be more contemporary

Music trends change year-by-year. It’s amazing how a track that felt right last year can look dated this year.

8. If the visuals aren’t too specific get a new script and voice

If the overall look of the video is relatively abstract, then there’s no reason why a different voiceover can’t make it tell a different story.

A new story for your new product or strategy.
