Advanced Digital Video Editing

Movie Effects

We all know that making a movie for the cinema is unbelievably expensive.

Part of this expense is the sheer cost of the filming equipment with batteries of lenses, many choices of film, a choice of cameras, various high powered lighting kits, and filters galore.

But this sophisticated equipment is very necessary to set the mood of the scene, to make it so the audience feel and believe that what is taking place is real and inviting to them.

Now advanced digital editing has the power to emulate many of these effects in the editing studio.

It works like this

In the compositing suite, scenes can be adjusted digitally to emulate almost any different type of film, whether slow speed, fast speed, indoor, outdoor, telecine, or 70s, or 60s, and so on.

Combine this with special digital filters and other film crew emulations, and it's possible to imagine how ordinary scenes can be transformed from the lacklustre to the interesting.

So what does this mean for the Corporate Video Commissioner?

The list of potential enhancements is vurtually endless, and again only limited by the imagination.

Here are a few:

Interview pieces can be flooded with a glow that takes away harsh lines on the interviewee's face, making them look younger and more personable. Just like on TV.

Outdoor scenes on a cold dull wintry day can be injected with more colour to make them more vivid and attractive.

Scenes of meetings round a table can be given, say, a touch of amber or pink warmth to make them look more relaxed, or a steely tinted grainy monochrome to make them look more businesslike and dynamic.

A dirty factory or cluttered office could be enhanced with glow making it look cleaner and tidier.

Work activity could be made more grainy looking, giving the impression of industry and diligence.

Scenes can intercut from widescreen to television size, and back again to add interest.

Everything can enhanced to look miles more attractive. more powerful or more compelling.

The clear benefit to the Corporate Commissioner is the cost. Movie effects add relatively little to a standard production, yet the degree of sophistication will stand out. Compositing gives value in return.
