Training Video Production - Top Tip 7

Graphics Tell It Better

Training videos look so much better for graphics.

This also includes captions. But by captions we don’t mean those stuck-on words that look like a cheap afterthought.

This style of caption is actually insulting as it treats the audience like a child.

We’re talking about stylish animated captions that are designed into the look of your training video.

Use stylish animated captions to emphasise learning points. Ditto for title sequences. Most programmes work better for being broken down into a number of logical chapters, as they help the audience plan how they’re going to absorb the information.

Caption titles for new sections also emphasise your corporate image and style, conferring a sense of graphic unity to the production.

Most modern edit suites include some form of animation so don’t wait to be asked. Ask up front.

But best of all, animated captions make for great summaries.

Remember the old chestnut: Tell ‘em what you’re going to tell ‘em, then tell ‘em, then tell ‘em what you told ‘em.

In our examples above, the section title is tell ‘em what you’re going to tell ‘em - while the summary is tell ‘em what you told ‘em. And you can tell ‘em with graphics.

Top Tip: Add animated captions and graphic titles to emphasise learning points in your training videos.
