Software Training Video

Software training is common these days as companies develop their business process management systems to encompass every aspect of the business or organisation. All this new computing requires more training, and some of it will be produced as video.

Training Video Production

This is because it costs company a great deal of money and effort if all users aren't quickly up to speed in the new system.

IT departments also identify the Cost of Ownership as the highest single cost in the chain of ordering and implementing any new system.

Because of this there is now a demand for software training that wasn't there 10 years ago.

There are a number of screen recording packages allow the training producer to capture whole video sequences of new software in action, making the basis of a tutorial or online training video package.

The best known of these is Camtasia.

Camtasia Online Tutorial Video

Here's how it's done:

> Use Camtasia to record a screen demonstration of an online procedure. The output is an .avi file.

> Import the avi into the video editing system, and edit it to pro voiceover

> Add captions, arrows and boxes to highlight key points or key screen areas

It's quick and simple to produce. But the resulting short training videos, once uploaded on the company's intranet, will make life a lot easier for new users of their software systems.

Two Presenter Training Video

Using a single presenter to anchor and link a training video can be a useful creative approach.

But using two presenters to deliver info as a male & female pair is even more engaging, and will elevate the production

Two presenters add zest and energy as they bounce off each other. It also allows you to develop good repartee in the video script.

Using two presenters will also cover for when there's a distinct lack of available footage to shoot.

For example:

> Where the training is about something that hasn't yet been made of developed

> Where there are filming access issues

> Where there are problems accessing staff who would have been able to speak on the training video, perhaps due to shifts or other issues

> Last but not least: When the training topic is boring but necessary, and desperately needs some life adding to it. Using two presenters in your training video production will give it a lift.

Thank you for using the Training Video Production Handbook.
