FREE VDU RISK ASSESSMENT - RESEARCH REVEALS ONLINE SUCCESS
This month the focus is on our free online VDU Risk Assessment, which the Rossiter & Co programming team originally developed from scratch for Pilkington.
New findings show that 97% of respondents found it to be useful or very useful.
This is a remarkably high figure, especially when you consider that the assessment is free, a word usually associated with second rate, or cut-down from the "proper" pro version.
But there's nothing second rate here!
It allows any user of display screen equipment to go online and confidentially assess how safe their personal workstation environment is. It then formally recommends the necessary steps to resolve any highlighted issues, with an optional printout or save to desktop.
In the last 3 months, 371 people have used the risk assessment.
Of these, a whopping 20% replied to the online survey, saying:
> Found very useful: 55%
> Found useful: 42%
> Found not useful: 3%
We draw two obvious conclusions from this:
> If you give people a good quality risk assessment they'll go online to use it. This is a big step in getting office workers to self-assess and self-correct, without the need for supervision.
> The Rossiter & Co VDU Risk Assessment is clearly a success.
The only reason it isn't used by thousands of people every day is that it doesn't get the publicity that it deserves.

CONFERENCE PRESENTATION - RETHINK RECRUITMENT HAVE A WINNER
Rethink Recruitment are a rapidly growing force in the IT recruitment sector, having grown revenue by £15M in 18 months.
Last month they held their annual conference with the staff from their three UK offices coming to the Saturday venue in Harpenden.
To help the day go off with a bang, the directors commissioned us to produce a multimedia presentation. The brief was simple. They wanted something powerful, much more than just a series of bullet points driven by a Powerpoint engine.
The presentation was divided into 2 sections, each one designed to support a director on stage, with topics like The Story So Far, and Beating the Competition.
Our brief was to make sure there was something exciting and animated happening behind the speaker at all times, avoiding the predictable bullet-after-bullet, which quickly dulls the mind.
Everything was accompanied by lots of inspiring references to staff members who've been successful (you can do it too!)
We pulled it all off in less than 14 days, working until late into the night a few times, so it was very rewarding to receive an email from director, Andy Lord, saying,
"... how fantastic the presentation was at the weekend. JB and I looked like multimedia Gods!! Thanks for all your effort and hard work. I hope we can find lots of excuses to use you again in the near future."
Nice. Thanks, Andy.

NEW DAILY Q&A COLUMN - YOUR MULTIMEDIA VIDEO WEB QUESTIONS ANSWERED
You may have noticed a new daily Q&A column on our home page, the portal to a whole new Q&A section launched last month.
The format is "Kevin, can you solve my problem? I need to ..."
Every day it highlights a reader problem in corporate communications relating to multimedia video and web, with everything set out in an easy to follow style similar to the BBC News web pages.
What started off this initiative was receiving mails every day asking for answers to problems. Some of these mails are enquiries that end up becoming new customers, but many are simply people with unresolved corporate communications issues that they'd like an answer to.
Recent highlights include:
Q: I'm looking for a presentation package as part of our company's new branding exercise.
Q: I'm looking to run a video clip developed in mpg on our company web site.
Q: I'm looking to do an interactive presentation dvd or cd business cards to send to my customers, instead of sending brochures.
Obviously, names of individuals and organisations are not revealed, but the problems are real enough.
Why not go and take a look and see for yourself?
I can guarantee you'll see communications problems that you'll relate to. And even if you don't agree with all the answers, it'll stimulate you to think of your own answers to problems in the as-yet-uncharted waters of new media.
