FIVE TOP VIDEO PRODUCTION TIPS - Part 2

1 - Robust methodology is all, so work to a proven Quality Procedure. Never wing it when making a programme. It will probably only end up costing more and taking longer.

2 - Creative synergies between client and producer always emerge during the production process. So always be alert for these opportunities to raise your sights and go one better.

3 - A professionally written script will always cost you less in the long run, as (a) it will be realistic as regards what resources are rqd to realise the final video, and (b) an outside scriptwriter can often provide a crisper more concise perspective than someone who's involved every day.

4 - Most people now have DVD players so you might consider DVD as part of your delivery mix.

5 - Where possible, always use professional actors rather than your own staff in the video. The professionals can usually be trusted to deliver a great performance, while your own staff can't.

More tips coming next month.

NEW EDIT SUITE - Wow!

We've just installed a new Edit Suite to the Studio.

Besides blinding speed, the key advantages to you, the customer are:

- More impactful creative productions due to the very latest software.

- Far better integration of video with DVD, multimedia and the web. Cheaper too.

- More refined editing due to a highly intuitive interface (could our editing get better ???!!!)

Taken together with the new Sony DX-50 camera, picture quality is now officially awesome!

THE GOOGLE DANCE? - Snakes & Ladders with search engines

Google has recently changed its method of ranking websites (again!). The net result of this is that non-business sites like universities and colleges are now enjoying higher ranked positions than many business sites.

Your company or organisation's website may well be affected by this. We call it the Google Dance.

The Dance is reportedly making it harder for companies to source suppliers as many business suppliers are now way down the list, compared to before the Dance occurred.

However if you have a good clear site, with lots of regular rich content, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

IN AND AROUND THE STUDIO - The Latest Gossip

Things are supposed to go slow over the holidays, aren't they? Not so here.

We welcome leading design agency, ZeroFiftyOne, as a new customer to the company. We are assisting them in producing a video for B&CE, pension providers to the construction industry. And Glasgow City Council, who we're helping to promote their Safetown Community Safety Project.

We've also installed a wi-fi network for part of the Studio, so if it's a nice day we can always work out in the garden and still be online for the web or our own network. Speaking of which, we now have 11 terminals in the Studio network (privately, we bet most studios only have half this :)

THE JOKE - Music Theme

Music theme this month, as I've played all my life, and even wrote some of your soundtracks.

- What's the difference between a trumpet and an onion?
Ans: No one cries when you chop up a trumpet.

- Why are harps like elderly parents?
Ans: Both are unforgiving and hard to get into and out of cars.

- What's the difference between an oboe and a bassoon?
Ans: You can hit a baseball further with a bassoon.

- What do a viola and a lawsuit have in common?
Ans: Everyone is relieved when the case is closed.

- How many men does it take to change a light bulb?
Ans: None. They prefer to sit in the dark and complain.

Oi!
