SUCCESS STORIES
The newspapers have been full of stock market jitters lately so we
thought some good news would be just the ticket to show that it's
not all doom and gloom by a long chalk.
SUCCESS STORY 1 - SCOTTISH EQUITABLE
First off, Scottish Equitable's new corporate video is going
down a storm. The 2 minute programme is available either on
VHS, or as an mpeg within a customisable laptop Powerpoint
presentation.
The main users are Independent Financial Advisers who recommend
Scottish Equitable. We've had confirmed reports that IFAs who've
seen the video are really pleased with it.
The actual programme is very different from the run-of-the-mill
pricey bloatware that often passes for corporate video these
days.
For a start it's short, only 2 minutes long, yet visually grabs
you from the word go! Innovative graphics and state-of-the-art
video compositing combine with a custom-written classical soundtrack
for a spell-binding experience.
We think it's possibly the stuff awards are made of. And, because
the runtime is only 2 minutes, it's relatively inexpensive.
Compared with long-winded 10 minute corporate videos this is
a breath of fresh air for both audiences and budgets.
If you write back we'll send you a copy.
SUCCESS STORY 2 - BROMLEY COUNCIL
More good news is the runaway success story of Bromley Council's
Walking Bus multimedia cd-rom, another milestone in community
communications.
So far at least 6,000 cd copies have been distributed, with
councils from all over the country ringing up and asking for
a copy.
To encourage wide distribution throughout the public service
sector Bromley are making copies available for a measly £2
each.
Gareth Davies, Assistant Director at Bromley, takes up the story:
"Multimedia is the perfect tool for public consultation
and promotion. Most people are afraid of change and a multimedia
presentation brings things to life and helps reduce uncertainty.
Our multimedia CD-ROM illustrates how the Walking Bus scheme
works. We have been using it at schools for almost three months.
The response has been phenomenal, and has allowed Bromley to
expand the number of participating schools in a very short period.
Parents, teachers and children can see at a glance how the scheme
can benefit them and how they can contribute.
The success of the Walking Bus will help reduce congestion,
improve the local environment and produce healthier, fitter children
that are more street aware.
This can only be good for the Borough."
Words fail, so please write and ask for a copy if you want to
see it for yourself.
SAFETY IN OUR CITIES AND BOROUGHS
So far we've been involved with four councils in producing video,
multimedia, websites and newsletters that communicate hard-to-get-across
messages to their local communities, with topics ranging from
new traffic schemes to road safety to community safety, and
even public art.
Audiences figures are now in the telephone number bracket.
Councils are starting to realise that video-multimedia-web is
a vehicle that really works for them, especially in areas where
paper-based communications keep falling short of expectations.
Gareth Davies of Bromley Council again says "I am convinced
that multimedia will play an ever greater role by improving communications
with the people who use our public services."
He adds "I am looking forward to working again with Kevin
Rossiter on the next multimedia project." (shameless plug
here!)
But it's nice to know we're doing our bit, and helping councils
get their key community messages across in effective, measurable,
and accountable ways.
THE JOKE - HOLLYWOOD TRUISMS
- Honest and hard-working policemen are traditionally gunned
down three days before their retirement.
- At least one of a pair of identical twins is born evil.
- Most laptop computers are powerful enough to override the
communications system of any invading alien society.
