Remember your audience and how they will view the finished
video.
People may happily sit for over three hours to watch
The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, but in most situations
their attention span is much, much shorter.
It is wisest to assume your audience is lazy and ignorant.
This may sound a bit strong, but experience proves it's a smart
assumption to make.
Don't try and say too much. Three main points is about all
most people can get their heads round in one session.
When you think about it, that's what you get in the Return
of the King:
- the forces of good are about to be overwhelmed by the
forces of evil;
- their existing resources are not adequate,
so they need to make new allies and undermine the plans
of the enemy;
- with their new power, they defeat the forces of evil.
Allowing for live action and titles, you only get about
100 words of narration per minute of video.
If you have read
all the pages so far in this e-book, you have already
read the equivalent of a 10-minute video script.
Another word on ambition: Always go for the very best result
you can, no matter how small your budget or small the project.
The very best result will always make a bigger difference
than simply a good result. Be ambitious for excellence.
Remember: Your video will probably be required to change people's
attitudes. This is not the simplest task.
So frankly, only
excellence will do.
